Why the Inclusive Aotearoa Collective?
March 15, 2019 held up a mirror to Aotearoa New Zealand. It showed the fragility of our shared consensus, of our conception of ourselves as a peaceful and progressive nation.
For some people, the depth of divisiveness, intolerance and hate was seen for the first time. For many others that day confirmed, in the most terrible way, a reality they already lived with.
For the large majority of New Zealanders, March 15 was a moment that unified us in aroha, in grief, in our conviction that this must never happen again. As it did, the mirror also showed us the best in ourselves. It is now time to build on that impetus, turning it into sustainable change.
